This year SEOs were instructed to say goodbye to public PageRank – the number between 0-10 that Google assigned to pages according to their importance. And, as Sullivansaid: “Good riddance.”
Sullivan recounts the checkered history of PageRank and how it resulted in the increase of link spam and shady SEO tactics. It’s really a great read and includes a crucial little bit of advice:
“Don’t fixate on scores, either Google’s scores, for any remaining few weeks they’ll be around, or third-party scores. For many, they could be a useful method to focus. However for so many, they can become an obsession that attracts clear of other kinds of SEO work that can be done.
